Fort De Soto Park: Reddish Egret
Posted by Don Crockett on March 14, 2012
I spent the morning at Fort De Soto Park in Tierra Verde, FL shooting video of the birds in the inlet at the north end of the park (see map below). The video clip below shows a variety of shots of a Reddish Egret in action along the shore of the inlet.
The adult Reddish Egret was very cooperative feeding very close to the shore for most of the morning. The egret was pretty oblivious to people, walking within 20 feet of other photographers and myself as it fished for minnows. It had numerous outbursts of erratic dancing chasing after its prey with its wings "umbrellaed" to block the sun. Later in the morning it spent around a half hour preening on the beach at the south end of the inlet before resuming its fishing.
